🍕 NATIONAL PIZZA MONTH STARTS AT ONE OF MY PIZZA DESTINATIONS!
I kicked off October last night at Angelo's Pizzeria and Ristorante in Hernando with friend and Pizza Lovers of Florida moderator George. Angelo’s is one of my Pizza Destinations, and in my opinion, one of the best pizzerias in Florida.

We went with their signature Angelo’s Margherita: a tomato pie topped with creamy stracciatella, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic glaze and fresh basil. This is Angelo’s own take on a Margherita, and the restaurant credits Angelo Jr. with putting that twist on the classic.

Take a look at that beautifully pizza in the video! The sauce gets plenty of room to shine, with dollops of stracciatella and fresh basil!!

There’s also a family story behind it. Angelo and Karen Rizzolo moved from Long Island to Citrus County in 1994 and opened Angelo’s in 1996. Angelo’s parents came from Palermo, Sicily, and his background combines his mother’s cooking with years spent working in Long Island pizzerias. That mix of Sicilian family tradition and New York pizza experience helped shape the restaurant we know today.

Now approaching 30 years, Angelo’s offers New York, Sicilian, Detroit and Grandma styles. Their website also highlights imported Italian flour and dough, sauces, meatballs and lasagna made in-house. There’s plenty here to explore beyond a single pie.i can't wait for A PIZZA DESTINATION – ANGELO'S 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY 🍕 🎉

I travel all over Florida for pizza, but having a place I hold this highly right here in Citrus County is something I appreciate. If you’re planning your National Pizza Month stops, Angelo’s deserves a spot on your list.

Have you tried Angelo’s? What’s your go-to pizza there? 🍕

🍕 OCTOBER IS NATIONAL PIZZA MONTH!
I celebrate pizza all year, but having an entire month dedicated to it is a pretty good excuse to eat a little more, explore somewhere new and appreciate everything that goes into a great pie.

To me, National Pizza Month is an opportunity to look beyond our usual order. Most of us have a favorite pizzeria and a style we gravitate toward. This month, try something different. If you always order New York style, get a Detroit. If you’ve never tried a Grandma or Sicilian, make October the month you do. You might find a new favorite, or simply gain an appreciation for a different way of making pizza.

It’s also a good time to learn more about what you’re eating. Ask about the dough, the ingredients or the oven. I enjoy those conversations because something that looks as simple as dough, sauce and cheese can involve days of preparation and years of experience. The more pizzerias I visit, the more I appreciate the decisions behind each pizza.

And National Pizza Month deserves to be a celebration of the people making it happen. Owners, pizzaiolos, kitchen teams, servers and delivery drivers all contribute to the experience. When you have a great visit, let them know. Leave a thoughtful review, recommend them to a friend or share your experience here. Giving someone credit for their work is a meaningful way to celebrate.

Here in Florida, we have plenty of opportunities to participate. We can spend October exploring different styles, visiting neighborhood favorites and discovering pizzerias we haven’t made it to yet. You don’t need a big trip planned. Sometimes the next great pizza is a short drive away.

My challenge to everyone this month is simple: visit at least one pizzeria you’ve never tried, enjoy an old favorite and share a pizza with someone.

Throughout October, I’d love to see your photos, recommendations and discoveries in Pizza Lovers of Florida. Tell us where you went, what you ordered and what made it worth the visit.

Happy National Pizza Month! I’m looking forward to celebrating it with all of you. 🍕

What’s the first pizzeria you’re visiting this October?

🍕 A QUICK UPDATE ON OUR GROUP RULES
I’ve updated the Pizza Lovers of Florida rules to make expectations clearer as our community continues to grow. Please take a few minutes to read the full rules in the group’s Rules section.

The goal is to keep this a welcoming place to discover pizza, share experiences, learn from each other, and connect with Florida’s pizza community.

Here’s what everyone should know:

• Keep it respectful. Different opinions and healthy debates are welcome. Personal attacks, harassment, insults, and threats are not.

• Keep politics out of posts and comments. Admin-approved recognition of Florida’s pizza community is welcome, but political debates, campaigning, and partisan commentary belong elsewhere.

• Keep posts relevant. Florida pizza is our focus. Home pizza making, recipes, equipment, and pizza education are welcome, too.

• Use real pizza photos. Photos should show the actual pizza being discussed or sold. AI-generated pizza images and edits that misrepresent the food are not allowed, including in business advertisements.

• Share honest, firsthand experiences. Reviews can include constructive criticism. Describe your own experience, be specific, and stay respectful. Don’t spread rumors or make unsupported accusations.

• Respect people’s pizza preferences. Have fun debating styles and toppings, but don’t belittle someone for enjoying something different.

• Include the pizzeria’s name and city. If there are multiple locations, tell us which one you visited so others can find it.

• Put business promotions in the Weekly Update Post. Advertisements, specials, events, and promotional links belong in that post’s comments. Standalone promotional posts require prior admin approval.

• Disclose business connections. If you own, work for, are related to the owner of, or otherwise have a business connection to a pizzeria you’re recommending, make that clear.

• No spam, scams, or privacy violations. Don’t send unsolicited sales messages to members or share someone’s private information. Report concerns to the admin.

You don’t have to love every pizza, and you don’t have to agree with every opinion. Just share honestly and treat each other with respect.

Thanks for helping make Pizza Lovers of Florida a community people enjoy being part of. 🍕
