Florida Is a Pizza Destination | Pizza Lovers of Florida
Florida isn’t one pizza style. It’s a place where great pizza traditions meet and where passionate people keep creating something new. 🍕

That’s the story I’ve been sharing with Pizza Lovers of Florida: visiting local pizzerias, meeting the people behind them, and bringing pizza lovers together. This video brings together moments from my two FOX 13 interviews with Haley Hinds and Regina Gonzalez, the Pizza King Podcast podcast, Florida pizza destinations including Uncle Rico's Pizza Fort Myers, Bythechefpizza and Miami Slice and the Congressional Record recognition I worked on with Congressman Gus Bilirakis

I’ve explored pizza in New York (such as Frico on 2nd) and New Haven and connected with the wider community at Pizza Expo, The Pizza Tomorrow Summit, and One Bite Pizza Fest. Every trip gives me more reasons to celebrate what’s happening right here in Florida.

Watch the video, tell me your favorite Florida pizzeria, and come share a slice with us. 🍕❤️

🍕 PIZZERIA OF THE WEEK: MADISON AVENUE PIZZA
Madison Avenue Pizza in Dunedin just won our Pizza Crawl – Pinellas Tour, and its old-school New York pizza made a strong impression on the group.

There’s a family story behind the shop. Owner Sean Ferraro started washing dishes and rolling dough balls at a Largo pizzeria when he was 14. He later worked in restaurants and South Florida hotels, but wanted to return to the Tampa Bay area. Sean and his wife, Jackie, made the move back to build Madison Avenue Pizza around the Italian family meals he grew up with and a kitchen that makes much of its food from scratch.

For our crawl, we sampled their New York-style pizza made with a 96-hour dough. It had the crispness and flavor I look for in this style, and it came out on top when the group’s results were tallied. Winning a four-stop crawl with four different pizza styles at some of the best pizzerias in the region is no small feat.

Madison Avenue also has a playful side. They make a 32-inch pizza, run creative weekly specials, and have even delivered pizza to nearby islands by boat aboard the Pizza Skiff. Their menu extends well beyond the classic New York pie, including a slow-risen Sicilian that I tried recently.

That combination of family history, care in the kitchen, and a pizza that won over our crawl group makes Madison Avenue Pizza our Pizzeria of the Week.

Vinny D’s Pizza To Go in New Port Richey was a very good find. 🍕
It’s a casual, veteran-owned neighborhood takeout spot, and Pop’s, Vinny’s father, was running the pizzeria when I visited. I picked up a 14-inch cheese pizza well done, a pepperoni pizza with house-made ricotta, and wings.

The well-done cheese pie was only $11.99. It’s made with Grande cheese, and Pop’s told me its dough had fermented for 26 hours. The sauce was excellent, the top had great color, and the bottom was very crisp. A simple cheese pizza tells you a lot about a pizzeria, and this one delivered.

The pepperoni and ricotta pie had a 92-hour fermentation. Side by side, I could tell the difference: it was even crispier than the cheese pie, less chewy, and very flavorful. The house-made ricotta worked beautifully with the pepperoni and sauce. There was very little flop despite the toppings.

Pop’s also mentioned that they make their sausage in house, which gives me a good reason to return. I noticed bags marked All Trumps 50143 and 50111 while I was there. It was interesting to see some of what goes into pies with such different fermentation times and textures.

Vinny D’s has the feel of a friendly neighborhood pickup spot, with the kind of pricing that makes you want to become a regular. Excellent sauce, serious crispness, and very, very good pizza all around. Next time, I’m trying the sausage.

🍕 **PIZZA LOVERS OF FLORIDA, I NEED YOUR HELP!** 🍕

I've been working on something new for our **Pizza Lovers of Florida Pizza Crawls**, and it's almost ready!

We're moving from paper rating sheets to a **mobile Pizza Crawl Scorecard** designed to be used right from your phone while we're crawling.

Before we use it at an actual event, **I need some of you to test it out!**

I've created a **TEST CRAWL** with four fake stops. You don't need to have eaten anything. Just pretend you're on the crawl, give each pizza whatever scores you want, add some notes, and submit your scorecard.

**Please test it primarily from your phone**, since that's how we'll actually use it during our crawls.

After you submit, please check a few things:
* 📧 **Did you receive your completed scorecard by email?** If you don't see it, **please check your spam/junk folder too.**
* 📥 Did it arrive in your regular inbox or spam?
* 📱 Does the scorecard and email look good on your phone?
* 🍕 Does the email correctly show the **pizzeria, pizza style, pizza, ratings and notes**?
* ⭐ Is the scoring system easy to understand and use?
* 🐛 Did you find anything broken, confusing or annoying?

👇 **TEST THE NEW PIZZA CRAWL SCORECARD BELOW!**

After testing, **please comment with your experience.** Screenshots are welcome if you encounter an issue.

If everything worked perfectly, please let me know below!

That way I'll know the entire process worked from beginning to end, not just hear about the ones that had problems.

These are completely fake test scores, so **have fun with it!** 🍕😂

If everything checks out, we'll be ready to start using this on our next **Pizza Lovers of Florida Pizza Crawl!**🍕📱🏆
